The prestigious Michelin Guide introduces its new three-key distinction for outstanding hotels in the UK and Ireland.
Adare Manor in Co Limerick and Ballyfin Demesne in Co Laois have achieved the prestigious honour of being awarded three keys by the Michelin Guide, marking them as among the finest hotels in Ireland. The 2024 Michelin Guide has introduced these “key” distinctions to recognise hotels offering exceptional guest experiences, similar to the iconic Michelin stars for restaurants.
Only 14 hotels across the UK and Ireland received the top-tier three-key rating, with 37 hotels earning two keys and 72 hotels awarded one key. In addition to the three-key honours, other standout Irish hotels include Cashel Palace in Co Tipperary, The Merrion in Dublin, and Sheen Falls Lodge in Co Kerry, all of which earned two keys for offering “an exceptional stay.” Nine hotels in the Republic were also recognised with one key, celebrating “a very special stay.”
Peter White, general manager of Ballyfin Demesne, expressed his pride at receiving the accolade: “We are absolutely delighted to be one of the first Irish hotels to receive three Michelin keys. At Ballyfin Demesne, we aim for excellence in every detail, and this recognition from Michelin is a special moment for our entire team.”
Adare Manor also celebrated another milestone, being named the Best Resort in Europe in the 2023 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards. With an impressive score of 98.13, the Limerick resort stood out among the best in Europe, sharing the Top 20 with seven other Irish properties. Among them are Ashford Castle in Co Mayo, which ranked fourth, Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg at fifth, and Sheen Falls Lodge in Kenmare at sixth.
Voters in the Condé Nast awards evaluated hotels based on service, atmosphere, dining, and overall guest experience. Adare Manor has proven to be a favourite, having been crowned the Best Resort in the World in 2022 and securing its place as Europe’s preferred destination for the third consecutive year.
Adare Manor’s reputation is bolstered by its stunning location on the River Maigue, Michelin-starred Oak Room restaurant, luxurious spa, Tom Fazio-designed championship golf course, and 840 acres of lush gardens, making it a premier destination for luxury seekers from around the globe.
